Sandymount Culture Night

Every 1st Friday of the month | Doors at 7, show starts at 7:30pm | Sandymount Culture Programme

The Sandymount Community Centre is delighted to partner with Tidy Towns and Dublin City Council to bring a monthly night of culture and community! Events will take place mostly on the first Friday of each month at 7.30pm (with a few exceptions, so keep an eye on our website and social media). We look forward to welcoming you to our rich programme of cultural events featuring unique evenings of theatre, as well as showcases of poetry, performances of music and more.

Explore our curated calendar featuring SCC culture program activities from January to June 2024, designed exclusively for you. Don't miss out on the exciting line-up. We look forward to your participation!. Local artists will come together to celebrate together!

These events are FREE and open to all, with a donation box on the door to support the cultural programme. Spread the word, grab some friends and come along!.

Upcoming Events at Our Venue:

1. Beezie - Date: Friday, 5 January - Time: 7:30 pm - 9 pm - Description: "Beezie" is the captivating true story of a woman from Sligo who chose to live alone on an island with her beasts. Sheila Flitton, known for her role as the Banshee in "The Banshees of Inisherin," brings this mesmerizing piece of theatre to life.

2. Women’s Stories of WWII - Date: Friday, 2 February - Time: 7:30 pm - 9 pm
A creative re-imagining of moments from the lives of women during WWII, featuring stories of bravery, sacrifice, and love. Smashing Times presents monologues about remarkable women, followed by a poetic retelling of the clandestine engagement of Sarah Curran and Robert Emmet.

3. Emilie Conway Jazz Trio - Date: Friday, 1 March - Time: 7:30 pm - 9 pm
Emilie Conway and her trio will serenade you into spring with a celebration of jazz, spanning the Great American Songbook to traditional Irish airs. Join us for an evening of hope, change, courage, and new love through music.

4. Calligraphy in Old & Modern Texts: A Talk with Kevin Honan - Date: Friday, 5 April - Time: 7:30 pm - 9 pm
Join calligrapher Kevin Honan for a captivating talk on calligraphy in old and modern texts. Immerse yourself in lyrical music and poetry while exploring this ancient art form. An opportunity to try calligraphy will be available.

5. Free Verse: Poetry & Spoken Word - Date: Friday, 3 May - Time: 7:30 pm - 9 pm
An evening of poetic performance featuring slam poetry champions, local writers, and published authors. Celebrate the richness of the Irish oral tradition with eclectic voices and ideas.

6. Songs of Joyce - Date: Friday, 7 June - Time: 7:30 pm - 9 pm
Enjoy a musical extravaganza with Sinéad Murphy and Darina Gallagher, performing best-loved songs from the life and works of James Joyce. From bawdy street ballads to folk songs, this evocation of an era has received critical acclaim worldwide.

This is a great opportunity to come have some fun and dust off your vocal cords! It's a chance to sing with your neighbours and have a cuppa and a chat. No need to book, just come along and sing your heart out!

A drop-in morning hosted by the community centre for anyone in the area who wants to meet some new people, read the papers, have a cuppa and learn more about what's going on in the community.

Please come along to our Parent/ Baby meet-up! We are offering a warm spot for new parents in the community to connect and meet one another.

(The group is ideal for parents of non-walking babies in buggies or carriers).

Free Drop-in Drawing Class (Adults only)

Mondays | 1-3pm

Lead by the lovely John Griffin, this class is a drop-in, work at your own pace, basic drawing class. You can have no experience or just want to work on honing your skills and meet some new people. We will have all the supplies, just bring a photo of your choice and learn how to draw your memories!

Spanish Theatre Course

Carapicara Productions will run an 8 week course of Theatre in Spanish for adult amateurs at the Sandymount Community Centre.

Theatre is an excellent way to make new friends, to reconnect with the child within all of us and in this case, it is also an opportunity to practice your Spanish! 

Theatre encourages self-esteem, personal integrity and teamwork. With two bilingual tutors, Alex Calvo & Elena Romero, you will be supported all the way to make this an enjoyable experience.

Three Classes, three mornings a week for you and your little people! Toddlers, Wobblers and babies- something for everyone. The weekly classes offer a wide variety of engaging experiences tailored to the needs of each age group. They are also a chance for children to socialise with children their own age, while offering parents/caregivers the opportunity to get to know others in their area too.

Fashion/Sewing Class (Kids)

This afterschool course will focus on getting the fundamentals right as sewing is a wonderful skill to take forward in life. We will initially cover hand sewing and then move onto machine sewing.
